Hey everyone I thought this first post I’d let you get to know me a little. I'm 24 years old, married for nearly 2 years, and still going to college (much to my dismay). I don't have any children just a small dog who keeps me company whenever my husband deploys. I've always enjoyed writing but never really pursued it until now. Each post I will try and share a pet peeve or gripe I’m currently having and talk about whatever else is on my mind, if you're bored enough to read this then enjoy!
Today's Gripe: Irresponsible pet owners!
Why oh why do people get pets if they don't want to properly care for them? I'm in no way claiming to be the perfect pet owner, but I try my best and would give up anything I could to keep my pet healthy and happy.
I happen to live in a pretty standard not so great apartment complex that has pretty thin walls. I have a neighbor who loves to go out on the town and leave their dog in their kennel. This dog has no training what-so-ever and barks constantly whenever they leave.. I've asked them numerous times to do something about it but it's been months and to no avail. I don't want to be one of those neighbors that is always complaining and I certainly don't want to call and complain to the manager, so my question is, what would you do in my situation?
Now this one doesn't necessarily relate to pet owners per say but it has to deal with pets. There are tons of feral cats roaming the grounds at our apartment complex. Now don't get me wrong I love cats and would have them if I wasn't allergic but it's come to the point where we're being overrun! They've tried to attack my dog/me; the people that feed them are leaving dishes out attracting possums and raccoons, putting everyone and their pets in further danger. Certain neighbors of mine have suggested b-b guns, but being an animal lover I refuse to harm them in anyway, even though I could use some free target practice, haha I’m just kidding! Anyway, the problem with this is 1. The apartment complex won't do anything about it, besides "give a talking to" to the people that feed them and 2. The animal control in my town will only give you traps it won't actually come and trap them and remove them for you. So I'm back to square 1, dealing with the darn cats! Just the other day I had one chilling on my window sill meowing into my apartment. Needless to say he/she got sprayed with my trusty water bottle! Now a lot of you might say why don't you just move, well well, I fully intend to as soon as our lease is up, we're high tailing it out of here!
Oh, how could I forget this one! How about people that get pets (more than one) then once they start having kids or have to move, whatever be the case they just give them up! Now I realize in some extreme cases such as moving oversees or having a dog/cat that is aggressive towards children but just getting rid of them because you picked an apartment that will only let you have 2 or 3 dogs vs. the 5 you have now or I’m having my 4th child so I have to get rid of 1 of my dogs...this just seems insane to me. My pets are my children and will be even when I do have kids.
Well that's all for today, I have to go grab some febreeze cuz my lovely dog is letting out sleep farts. The joy of being a pet owner!
Stay salty my friends!
